Hammer second in Modified tune-up at FCR; prepping Late Model

With his Late Model plans for the weekend washed out by Mother Nature, Kyle Hammer broke out his Hammer Hauling No. 45 Modified on Friday night at Farmer City Raceway (Farmer City, Ill.).

With the fast time honors and a heat race victory placing him on the front row for the feature, Hammer paced the first 18 circuits but was unable to contain a charging Michael Ledford in the closing laps. He chased Ledford to the checkers in the 20-lapper with Trevor Neville rounding out the podium.

This coming weekend will see Hammer return to the Super Late Model ranks as the MARS Racing Series kicks off their highly-anticipated 2023 season with a tripleheader weekend. Action begins at Brownstown Bullring (Brownstown, Ill.) on Friday, with another $5,000-to-win feature on Saturday at Fairbury Speedway (Fairbury, Ill.) before wrapping up the weekend on Sunday at Red Hill Raceway (Sumner, Ill.) with another $5,000 payday on the line.
